One of the things I love about living in the Blue Mountains is coming across WIRES staff at the most unexpected times. WIRES is the Wildlife Information Rescue and Education Service, a wonderful organisation dedicated to saving, treating and rehabilitating all kinds of animals. Almost anyone can volunteer for WIRES, as long as they participate in a training course and induction. Since the widespread bushfires in October I’ve been lucky enough to meet a couple of people who were caring for stranded or orphaned animals, and they were kind enough to let me photograph their charges. A wombat at the pub, three ring-tailed possums at the hairdresser and one very chuffed blogger. I think they’re in good hands.
